Otherworldly gatherings.

Getting out there.

have had more experience with live events than most copywriters, or so it seems. The most surreal experiences I have had are with events that took place during COVID 19, where the shows needed to continue, just not in the physical world. During this time, I began to explore hosting tradeshows in the metaverse. While the whole concept has yet to take off, people have been running tradeshows virtually for a decade. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of how they do it:

1. Choose the Right Metaverse Platform

The foundation of your virtual tradeshow depends on the platform you choose. Options like Spatial, AltspaceVR, Decentraland, or even a custom-built VR world allow businesses to create immersive environments with booths, stages, and networking lounges. Consider factors such as accessibility, customization, and engagement tools when selecting a platform.

2. Design a Virtual Venue

Unlike physical venues, metaverse spaces have no spatial limitations—you can create futuristic expo halls, floating auditoriums, or even a space station-themed event. Work with 3D designers and VR developers to build visually stunning, branded environments that capture the essence of your industry.

3. Set Up Interactive Booths

Exhibitors need a place to showcase their products. Instead of traditional banners and pamphlets, metaverse booths can offer:
3D product demos (viewable in AR/VR)
Live video chats with company reps
Embedded explainer videos
Instant downloads of brochures & whitepapers
Gamified experiences to engage attendees

4. Enable Real-Time Networking & Engagement

One of the biggest challenges of virtual events is replicating the spontaneous networking that happens at in-person tradeshows. Metaverse solutions can address this with:
🔹 AI-driven matchmaking to connect attendees with similar interests
🔹 Virtual lounges & breakout rooms for discussions
🔹 Live Q&A sessions, panels, and workshops with experts
🔹 Avatars & voice chat for a more immersive, real-world feel

5. Monetize Your Tradeshow

Just like a physical event, a metaverse tradeshow offers multiple monetization opportunities:
💰 Ticketed entry for exclusive sessions
💰 Sponsorship packages with branded booths, banners, or virtual billboards
💰 NFT-based access to special content or VIP networking
💰 E-commerce integration allowing attendees to purchase products directly within the metaverse

6. Promote the Event & Drive Attendance

The best tradeshow won’t be effective without attendees. Market your event using:
📢 Social media ads & influencer partnerships
📢 Email marketing campaigns
📢 SEO-optimized landing pages & blog posts
📢 Partnerships with industry publications & associations

7. Measure Success with Analytics

Unlike physical tradeshows, metaverse analytics provide real-time insights into visitor behavior:
📊 Foot traffic & engagement levels at booths
📊 Time spent in different areas of the expo
📊 Interaction metrics (downloads, video views, product trials)
📊 Lead generation stats for exhibitors
